We have the GRIGRI 2 belay device that has braking to facilitate belay maneuvers. It works with both lead climbing and top roping. It can be used on 8.9-11 mm dynamic single ropes and the design allows you to have great descent control. The belay devices are lightweight and compact. The hand motions are the same as classic belay systems with both hands on a rope. A fall will be stopped by gripping the brake side of the rope with your hand. There is also assisted braking that happens during fall arrest with the belayer holds the brake side of the rope then the cam pivots and pinches the rope, increasing the braking action until the rope stops sliding. With all these factors, it allows excellent descent control. It’s easily used so one hand can hold the rope and the other can unlock the cam. It is very lightweight at 170g made with a stainless steel friction plate & cam to ensure the product lasts.
This design has a patented handle design and when combined with the strong braking action of the cam, allows a slow release of the rope to give you security and even more control.
